Boyan Raev is the new Director of the Interior Ministry's General Directorate Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC), the Ministry said on Thursday. Senior Commissioner Raev, who was appointed GDCOC deputy director in 2023, was promoted Chief Commissioner by Interior Minister Daniel Mitov.
The Ministry's Secretary General, Chief Commissioner Miroslav Rashkov, presented the newly appointed director, saying: "I know what you are capable of, and I hope for strong teamwork so that the high performance of the Ministry's most elite unit can continue."
Raev has worked at the Interior Ministry for 29 years, including 15 years at GDCOC. He outlined the key priority areas, including the fight against drug trafficking and smuggling, combating terrorism, human trafficking and money laundering.
Raev's predecessor, Chief Commissioner Yavor Serafimov, left GDCOC to become Deputy Director of the National Police General Directorate.
Boyan Raev was born in the north-central town of Sevlievo in 1976. He holds a master's degree in Business Administration from the Academy of Economics in Svishtov and a law degree from Varna Free University. In 2015, he was appointed head of a sector of the Counter-Terrorism Department, and led the Special Operations Department between 2021 and 2023. He was appointed GDCOC Deputy Director in October 2023. Raev has received numerous awards from the Interior Ministry and from European and international agencies and organizations.
