The “sanitary cordon” [around MRF - New Beginning Floor Leader Delyan Peevski], proposed by Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria, was the way to stop Peevski and his use of political pressure tactics, said CC-DB Deputy Floor Leader Bozhidar Bozhanov. Speaking to reporters in Parliament on Wednesday, Bozhanov stated that Peevski is destroying parties and forcing political leaders to resign.
According to Bozhanov, this is happening with the approval of GERB - UDF Floor leader Boyko Borissov and the ruling majority, of which Peevski is part. “That ‘sanitary cordon’ was broken and undermined by Borissov, who removed us from negotiations when these topics came up,” Bozhanov said.
“Peevski has not made a single statement from the parliamentary rostrum, nor taken any real political action—aside from the kiosks at the post offices,” CC-DB Deputy Floor Leader emphasized. Asked about Dzhevdet Chakarov’s resignation, Bozhanov said there are many interpretations, one of which is that “tools such as business takeovers and threats of account freezes” may have been used against Chakarov’s family.
