The Supreme Court of Cassation is set to rule on the case against the decision of the Sofia City Court to refuse to enter changes to the account of the political party Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) in the Register of Political Parties, to delete Delyan Peevski, initiated upon an appeal by Dzhevdet Chakarov, the court announced on Tuesday.

According to Chakarov's defence, the Sofia City Court's decision is unfounded, incorrect and in contradiction with the law. Attorney Valentin Savov pointed out that the court did not fully discuss the factual situation and did not take into account all the evidence.

Prosecutor Radoslav Stoev stated that the appeal was unfounded and asked the court to dismiss it without reviewing it. According to him, the decisions taken by the party's governing bodies contradict its statute, and the Sofia City Court ruled correctly.

During the hearing, the court rejected as unfounded the request of the lawyers representing Dzhevdet Chakarov to suspend the case until the Supreme Court of Cassation issues a ruling on an interpretative case regarding the presence of two persons with representative authority who perform contradictory and exclusive actions.

The case before the Supreme Court of Cassation was initiated upon an appeal by the political party Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), represented by chair Dzhevdet Chakarov, against the decision of the Sofia City Court. The contested judicial act refused to enter changes on the record of the MRF in the Register of Political Parties, dismissing a motion to this effect of October 22, 2024. The motion was for the striking off of Delyan Peevski as member of the MRF party, chair of the party, and member of the MRF Central Operational Bureau and the MRF Central Council.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chakarov announced he will step down as MRF chair.
