Continue the Change Co-Chair Kiril Petkov said Wednesday his party has received information that the convergence report on Bulgaria's readiness to adopt the euro will be positive. All conditions are in place for Bulgaria to join the eurozone, Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) Governor Dimitar Radev said on Tuesday, pointing out that the goal is for this to happen from January 1, 2026.
"This week is another one in which the ruling majority will teach the whole Bulgarian nation about corruption schemes. When we ask why we do not have roads, water in many settlements, it is because public procurement does not work properly," Petkov said.
According to him, in public procurement there is usually “a grey cardinal like Ivan Mirinski, who adjusts which company wins the public procurement and which does not before the public procurement even takes place”. "Then there are violations in public procurement and usually there is a complaint and it goes to the Commission for Protection of Competition (CPC). This week, of all the possible priorities for Bulgaria, the ruling majority chose to elect Rosen Karadimov, most likely, as the next head of the CPC to manage the BGN 30 billion of public procurement. If by chance it passes the CPC filter, it will go to the Supreme Administrative Court (SAC), where SAC President Cholakov, who is there against constitutional rulings, will make the “final turn”. That is how they manage BGN 30 billion of orders, that is how they set people up," Petkov claimed.
“What we saw was the old model,” Petkov said, referring to the BGN 15 million allocated by the Cabinet to Sofia's public surface transport. "You throw BGN 15 million out of the jeep, taxpayers' money, and you do not care what happens afterwards. Why should this 15 million go to the tram drivers and not to the nurses or young doctors," Petkov commented. “I am glad that [Sofia Mayor] Vassil Terziev stood tall and did not bend,” he added.
