The fire that broke out following explosions at an ammunition warehouse at the military factory near Tryavna earlier on Monday has been brought under control, with no current risk of it spreading to a wider area, Chief Commissioner Aleksandar Dzhartov, Director of the General Directorate of Fire Safety and Civil Protection, told reporters.

Six firefighting teams, six forestry teams and a trained volunteer unit are working at the scene, Dzhartov said. The eastern and western fronts of the fire have been contained, while crews continue to work around the perimeter of the affected area. Dzhartov noted that teams will remain on duty overnight, with operations set to continue on Tuesday until the area is fully secured. 

An abandoned agricultural building has burned down. The extent of the affected area cannot yet be accurately assessed, as the teams are currently focused on preventing the fire from spreading.

The situation is being continuously monitored by drones, allowing authorities to track the fire and respond to any changes. Air quality measurements have also found no deviations from normal levels. Wind conditions are not currently considered a threat to the fire’s spread, he added.

Smoke output is currently very limited and is coming mainly from the forested area. According to Dzhartov, there is currently no need to evacuate residents, but the authorities are prepared to act if the situation changes.

Crews are also monitoring the situation near a hamlet close to the village of Radoevtsi.

The fire broke out shortly after 10:30 a.m. at an ammunition warehouse at the EMCO military plant near the village of Belitsa, Tryavna Municipality. There have been no fatalities or injuries, Tryavna Mayor Dencho Minev said earlier in the day. He added that the municipality is prepared to respond if there is a need to accommodate people. Residents in the area around the fire have access to water and electricity, he said, noting that the situation is currently calm and safe.
