site.btaPensioners in April 2025 Are 13,179 More Y/Y, Average Monthly Pension BGN 99.21 Higher

The number of pensioners in April 2025 was 2,052,597, which is an increase of 13,179 (0.6%) compared to a year earlier, the press centre of the National Social Security Institute (NSSI) said. The average monthly pension amount of a pensioner for the fourth month of the year (including the Easter supplement) was BGN 959.21. Compared to the same month in 2024, the average amount was higher by BGN 99.21 (11.5%).

The total amount of reported revenues under the under the consolidated budget of the state social insurance as of April 2025 amounted to BGN 4,613.3 million, which represents 30.3% implementation of the plan for the year. Revenues received were BGN 473.0 million more compared to the same period of the previous year. Total reported expenses amounted to BGN 8,673.7 million BGN, which was 31.7% of the plan for the year. Compared to the same period of 2024, expenses increased by BGN 605.3 million.

In the structure of total expenditures, the largest share were pension expenses. They amounted to BGN 7,699.1 million, which was 31.9% of the plan for the year. Compared to the same period of last year, pension expenses were BGN 602.1 million (8.5%) more.

The next most important and largest group of expenditures in the consolidated budget were cash benefits and benefits under the Social Security Code. As of April 2025, they amounted to BGN 910.1 million, or 29.6% of the plan for the year. The reported expenditures were BGN 2.1 million less than the same period in 2024.

The total amount of reported transfers (net) under the consolidated budget as of April 2025 was BGN 4,024.8 million.

Teachers' Pension Fund

The total amount of reported revenues under the budget of the Teachers' Pension Fund as of April 2025 was BGN 37.2 million. This was 26.8% implementation of the plan for the year. The revenues received were BGN 1.3 million more than the same period last year. The total reported expenditures under the budget of the Teachers' Pension Fund as of April 2025 were BGN 37.7 million, which was 30.2% of the plan for the year. The incurred expenditures were BGN 5.7 million more compared to the same period in 2024.

Guarantee Fund 

Total revenues received under the Guarantee Fund budget as of April 2025 amounted to BGN 1,416.2 thousand, which represents 44.3% implementation of the plan for the year. The revenues received were BGN 499.8 thousand more compared to the same period in 2024. The total reported expenditures of the fund as of April 2025 amounted to BGN 898.3 thousand, which was 18.6% of the plan for the year. The incurred expenses were 844.5 thousand BGN more compared to the same period in 2024.

On April 2, the press service of the Council of Ministers said that in connection with the Easter holidays, about 687 thousand pensioners will receive an additional BGN 50 in April.
