“There’s no way anyone can steal people’s savings,” said Kiril Petkov, Continue the Change Co-Chair, at a press conference at the BTA National Press Club here on Sunday. “What will actually happen is that, with the removal of currency risk, investments will increase,” he said.

According to Petkov, there is no risk of people being unable to convert their money into euro, and there will be no fees for this. “The problem is for those who have stolen millions and now need to find a way to make that money legal, but for ordinary people, this is not an issue,” Petkov added.

He also addressed the topic of Bulgaria's monetary sovereignty. He stated that, by joining the eurozone, Bulgaria will, for the first time, have a seat at the table and be able to discuss Europe’s monetary policy in a shared sovereignty model. “Instead of just receiving instructions about what the interest rate will be tomorrow, without even being allowed to ask,” he said.

“When we spoke with people and dispelled their fears—that there will be no inflation, no one will steal their savings, and that Vidin is one of the beautiful places in Bulgaria that will feel the positive effects the fastest—the fog of fake news begins to clear,” Petkov noted. “We continue this campaign on a national level—talking to people and eliminating their practical fears about the eurozone. There are large owners of undeclared wealth who, when they go to convert their money, will have to explain where it came from. These people are pushing a serious campaign to prevent Bulgaria’s economy from being brought into the light. For us at Continue the Change, economic transparency and the fight against corruption are top priorities,” he emphasized.

MP Andrey Tsekov from the Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria parliamentary group said that at this stage, there are no legal or financial obstacles to ensuring the implementation of the Vidin–Botevgrad motorway. Speaking at the same press conference, he addressed infrastructure projects that could contribute to the economic and demographic revitalization of the Vidin region.

“During the [Nikolay] Denkov cabinet, the design phase for the Montanta–Vratsa section was commissioned, along with a bypass road around Vratsa, to create a fully functional motorway segment,” Tsekov noted. Provided that designs, building permits, and land expropriations are in place, the entire project could be completed within two years. “There are budget funds, but not enough have been allocated for this project—under BGN 200 million,” he added. This is the fastest achievable transport corridor linking the Aegean ports—through which goods from Asia and Europe flow—to Northern Europe. “It is the key to the economic rise of Northwestern Bulgaria,” said the MP.
