The Rhodope Mountains in southern Bulgaria had a snowfall on Wednesday and the region got a cover of snow, particularly in the high-altitude areas of Pamporovo and Rozhen. The snow cover at Rozhen reached about 1 cm, with temperatures dropping to -1 C, while Pamporovo saw a low of 0°C. Webcams at Snezhanka Peak showed snow-covered meadows.
Snow also fell in several high-altitude villages in Plovdiv Region. In the village of Manastir (elevation 1500m), the snow cover reached 2–3 cm. According to Mayor Milena Ivanova, such snow is not unusual for the village. She noted that winters used to begin as early as September, but now snow arrives much later.
In Lilkovo (nearby Rodopi Municipality), snow caused a power outage. Electricity provider EVN is working to resolve the issue. Snow depth there is also around 2–3 cm.
