Cabinet adopted the national Action Plan for the Promotion of Equality Between Women and Men 2025-2026, the government’s press service said here on Thursday.

The document aims to implement a unified policy in this area by carrying out the measures included in it through various institutions and organisations.

The National Action Plan outlines five priority areas: gender equality in the workplace and equal economic independence; reducing gender pay and income gaps; supporting gender equality in decision-making; addressing violence and providing protection and support for victims; and combating gender stereotypes and sexism in all areas of society.

The document outlines measures to promote equal participation in the labour market, improve work-life balance, enhance professional skills development and career growth, and encourage girls and women to pursue careers in fields where they are underrepresented, such as defence, security, and public order. Additional actions aim to reduce gender pay gaps, support equal economic independence, provide support and social services to victims of violence, and raise awareness.

The National Action Plan is based on the principles, goals, and priorities of the National Strategy on Gender Equality 2021-2030. It complies with national laws and relevant strategic documents, as well as international agreements on gender equality, non-discrimination, and human rights to which Bulgaria is a signatory and is committed to implementing.
