Commenting on Thursday's visit to Bulgaria of Kyrylo Budanov, Chief of Staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which became public knowledge on Friday, GERB leader Boyko Borissov said that the meeting between Budanov and Prime Minister Rumen Radev was so conspiratorial that the security services and the President did not know about it. Borissov made the comment during a meeting with farmers in Silistra (on the Danube), livestreamed on Facebook on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, President Iotova commented that she had received neither a request nor an invitation for a meeting with Budanov, and that she had not spoken with him.
“What does a conspiratorial meeting mean? What does it mean to lie to pro-Russian people and tell them you have nothing to do with Ukraine?” Borissov asked. “It is such a secret meeting that no one knows about it - either the security services or the President. We just have to imagine that these people are responsible for our security,” said the GERB leader.
He called "a disgrace" the Consultative Council on National Security convened by the President on October 7. "They were so unprepared and had no information," Borissov added, referring to information about the two merchant ships attacked by sea and aerial drones in Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone on October 6.
