Presidential candidate Iliana Iotova said that solving Bulgaria's major problems starts with restoring statehood in the country together. She met with local residents in Plovdiv on Saturday.
Statehood does not simply mean having state institutions or hollow structures, but ensuring that laws and rules are observed and "watching over them as if one were watching over oneself", she said. "We will achieve this," Iotova added. "The State must reclaim its proper role. It has the tools and means to intervene in ways that make people's lives easier, even in the most severe crises," she said.
Iotova said she and Kiril Valchev had decided to run because they firmly believe that together they can help Bulgaria make progress, with the country's time-honoured virtues, hard work and the vote of every single Bulgarian, because every Bulgarian voice matters to them.
The presidential institution should be the place where everyone is welcome to share their concerns and make suggestions, so that good solutions for Bulgaria can be found together, Iotova said.
"The war must stop. This is our responsibility towards the future. Bulgaria must have its own sovereign foreign policy and a policy for peace," she added.
Iotova thanked people for the tremendous energy they gave her. "Together we will be the safe hands for Bulgaria," she said.
Besides Plovdiv, the Iotova-Valchev presidential ticket visited the towns of Asenovgrad and Rakovski on Saturday.
