site.btaPolice Uncover Second-hand Car Parts Shop Trading in Goods Stolen in Italy, Bulgaria


A large-scale specialized police operation in Kyustendil on April 24 found a large number of disassembled and ready-for-sale parts of motor vehicles with mechanically deleted and cut-out identification numbers in a commercial establishment for the sale of second-hand car parts. The operation was carried out by officers of the State Police, the Sofia Directorate of Interior, the Kyustendil Regional Directorate of Interior, the National Revenue Agency, the Labour Inspectorate and the Regional Environmental Protection Inspectorate, the Interior Ministry said in a press release on Friday.
Experts of the Interior Ministry and the Plovdiv Regional Directorate of Interior, using modern technologies and technical means, have identified the authentic identification numbers of 7 engines from vehicles and disassembled parts from another car, subject of theft from Sofia; two disassembled motor vehicles, a multimedia from a luxury car and license plates reported stolen in Italy.
A total of 20 car engines, license plates and numerous parts of vehicles were seized.
The owner of the shop was detained for up to 24 hours.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated for a crime under Article 215 of the Penal Code and under the supervision of the Kyustendil Regional Police. The work on the case continues.
