Over the past week, the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office (SCPO) has received reports on allegations of wrongdoing by politicians and magistrates, the prosecution service said here on Monday. The reports concern two citizens' alerts containing allegations of illegal actions by members of Supreme Judicial Council's (SJC) Prosecutors Chamber.

An association has submitted a report claiming that a municipal flat in Sofia had been used by a former member of the European Parliament. There is also another citizen alert, containing allegations that huge sums of BGN had been transferred across the border to a foreign country in early 2021 by using an aircraft of the State Aviation Operator. Moreover, a citizens' association has filed a report alleging corruption and abuse of power by a political party chairman, a former minister, among others.

Prosecutors from SCPO have launched investigations into the cases. All necessary action will be taken to clarify the allegations, including requesting information from all competent authorities, ministries, security services, among others, the prosecution service said.

In addition, SCPO has launched a probe into Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev’s allegations of influence peddling and corruption by senior state officials.

On May 19 Geshev was questioned for the purpose of collecting information relating to the subject-matter of the investigation. The Prosecutor General was also questioned by the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office on Monday.
