Parliament on Thursday adopted a declaration in connection with escalating anti-Bulgarian acts of aggression in North Macedonia, with 184 votes in favour and one abstention.
Four drafts were submitted by GERB-UDF, Continue the Change, Democratic Bulgaria and Vazrazhdane based on which a single draft was proposed by the parliamentary foreign affairs committee.
In the adopted declaration the Bulgarian Parliament condemns the acts of aggression against Bulgarians in North Macedonia, their organizations and clubs and the latest assault against Bulgarian Christian Pendikov and urges for measures by all institutions for identifying and holding to account the culprits.
Also, Parliament objects to the sustained failure to impalement the Treaty for Friendship, Goodneighbourly Relations and Cooperation of 2017 and the bilateral protocols of the meetings of the joint intergovernmental commission under Article 12 of 2019 and 2022.
The declaration voices concern that the escalating anti-Bulgarian campaign in North Macedonia may put at risk the process of entering Bulgarians in the country’s constitution and the development of democratic processes and institutions in North Macedonia and its road to EU membership, which serves the interest of third countries.
