Justice Minister Krum Zarkov attended a meeting of the council of justice ministers in Brussels Friday, which agreed on a common approach on three legislative proposals: a regulation and a directive on the digitalisation of judicial cooperation, and an amendment to the directive on environmental crime, the Ministry of Justice press office said.
Bulgaria stressed the importance of digitalisation in increasing the efficiency of judicial systems by speeding up proceedings while fully guaranteeing the rights of citizens and businesses. On the environmental crime directive, Bulgaria supported the common approach by submitting, together with Finland, a declaration on the obstacles to the harmonisation of sanctions for legal persons. These considerations were supported by Hungary, Estonia, Slovenia and Romania.
In the debate on the proposal for a directive on asset recovery and confiscation, Minister Zarkov drew attention to the possibility of using civil confiscation and pointed out that Bulgaria has been doing so for more than 10 years and is ready to share its experience.
