Voting on draft revisions to the Election Code on Thursday, Parliament approved conclusively that voters can either choose to vote by paper or machine ballot.

MPs left in place a rule for voting only by paper ballot in voting sections with fewer than 300 voters, by mobile voting stations, in hospitals, care homes and other specialized social institutions and in voting sections abroad where fewer than 300 voting applications are submitted or where fewer than 300 people voted in the last elections.

A proposal by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms for new machines to scan paper ballots was rejected by GERB and the Bulgarian Socialist Party. Continue the Change and Democratic Bulgaria walked out of the plenary hall during the debates about the new scanning machines.
