The European Green Deal Consultative Council chaired by outgoing Deputy Prime Minister and Environment and Water Minister Borislav Sandov resumed work on Tuesday, the Government information service said. The council is expected to outline the forthcoming reforms and investments in the greening and modernization of the Bulgarian economy.
Since its inception more than two years ago, the Council has held two meetings but failed to establish a working mechanism for dialogue with the stakeholders. Subsequently changes were introduced in the mechanism to guarantee broader participation on the way towards greening, establishing commissions focused on specific subjects: energy transition, sustainable mobility, energy efficiency and overcoming energy poverty, taxonomy and sustainable finance, circular economy, adaptation to climate change, as well as communication of green transformation processes.
At the present meeting, the Council adopted an annual programme and set July 8 as the launching date for the Energy Transition Commission. The Sustainable Mobility Commission is to hold its first meeting next week.
Applications for membership may be submitted until July 7. Organisations, institutions and business representatives with proven expertise and experience in the above-listed fields are eligible to apply.
