Parliament's Internal Security and Public Order Committee approved the government's 2026 State Budget Bill at first reading on Thursday. The proposal was backed by 11 MPs, while seven voted against it. There were no abstentions.

The budget parameters for the Ministry of Interior were presented by Deputy Interior Minister Kaloyan Kaloyanov and Boryana Tsvetkova, Director of the Ministry's Budget Planning and Management Directorate. Kaloyanov said the proposed budget framework reflects the inherited state of the public finances and the accumulated fiscal imbalances, while taking into account the scope for implementing short-term measures during 2026.

The draft budget provides for total revenue of EUR 215,907,400 for the Interior Ministry in 2026, Tsvetkova said. Expenditure is set at EUR 2,115,233,200, matching the level of the Ministry's budget for 2025.
