site.btaDara Back in Sofia after Eurovision Victory: We Did Something Great for Bulgarian Music
Pop star Dara returned to Bulgaria from Vienna on Sunday just hours after winning the 70th Eurovision Song Contest with "Bangaranga".
At Vasil Levski Sofia Airport, she was welcomed by Culture Minister Evtim Miloshev, Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev, members of the Bulgarian National Television management board and numerous fans. The aircraft was greeted with a water salute upon landing.
In her first statement in Sofia, Dara said: "We have done something great for Bulgarian music, and I hope this sends a message that Bulgaria's performers and artists deserve stronger support."
"We are an exceptionally talented nation that will continue to receive more and more attention," she added.
Dara also performed the hit "Bangaranga" for the crowd gathered to welcome her home.
This is Bulgaria's first Eurovision victory. It was also the first time since 2017 that the same act topped both the audience poll and the jury rankings.
The Bulgarian singer scored 516 points from the jury and the televote, finishing ahead of Israel, which came second with 343 points - the largest winning margin in the history of the contest.
