World Boxing President Gennadiy Golovkin will attend the European Boxing Championships in Sofia, Bulgarian Boxing Federation Chair Krasimir Ininski said on Monday. The two met during the finals of the Belgrade Winner tournament.

Ininski and Golovkin discussed the development of the sport and Bulgaria’s place on the world stage. The former professional world champion and Olympic silver medallist said Bulgaria would be an excellent host of the European Championships for men and women in September. Golovkin also confirmed his intention to visit Sofia for the historic event in four months.

“I have known Golovkin for many years. He is a good friend of Bulgarian boxing and always speaks with great respect about our school and organizational skills. I am glad he accepted my invitation and will honour us by attending the first European Championships in World Boxing history,” Ininski said from Belgrade, quoted by the Bulgarian Boxing Federation.
