Progressivе Bulgaria Deputy Floor Leader Slavi Vassilev said on Thursday that the coalition did not support the proposed temporary parliamentary committee to investigate the assets of Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) - New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski because it would effectively be "just a talking shop".
Speaking to journalists after lawmakers failed to approve the committee earlier in the day, Vassilev argued that such a body would not be able to take any actual decisions regarding Peevski's assets or security arrangements.
"We made this decision because, as a future governing force, we know the Council of Ministers will very quickly take decisions regarding Mr Peevski," Vassilev said.'
He added that the future government would soon adopt measures demonstrating the coalition's intention to "dismantle this model of governance".
According to Vassilev, the National Assembly, under the leadership of the Progressive Bulgaria majority, would set the agenda "without turning it into a talking shop". He said decisions concerning Peevski's security protection would be taken after the new Council of Ministers is approved and would be made "in line with both the law and public expectations".
Asked about the appointment of former There Is Such a People (TISP) MP Nikoleta Kuzmanova as chief of staff to National Assembly Chair Mihaela Dotsova, Vassilev said he was not familiar with the case.
