Six more measles cases have been registered in Bulgaria, bringing the total number to 165 as of April 23, according to data published on the Health Ministry website. Two of the new cases were reported in Vratsa, another two in Lovech, and one each in Pleven and Sofia.

On Wednesday, Iliya Tasev, Director of the Public Health Protection, Health Control and Patients’ Rights Directorate at the Ministry of Health, said that 20,000 children had been vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella since early March.

The first eight cases of measles were confirmed by the Health Ministry on March 19. They were in the region of Vratsa. Consequently, the authorities ordered emergency immunization for measles for all children who had missed out on vaccination.
