A total of 66 million litres of wine were produced by Bulgarian wineries in 2025, Krasimir Koev, Executive Director of the Executive Agency on Vine and Wine, said on Friday. He was among the official guests at а vine-pruning ritual of the Plovdiv Agricultural University, dedicated to Trifon Zarezan, the traditional Bulgarian celebration of vine growers and winemakers.
Koev pointed out that 365 wineries operate currently in the wine production market across the country. Тhere has been a 10-15% drop in both the harvested grapes and the wine produced in 2025. "Last year was challenging in terms of climatic conditions, but regions with good irrigation produced high-quality grapes. Our specialists in both agronomy and winemaking have five years of university training and are highly skilled and well prepared. It is no coincidence that they rank among the world's leading experts in winemaking," he said.
Annual wine consumption in Bulgaria amounts to between 110 and 120 million litres, Koev said, adding that there is no risk of unsold stock. "Bulgarians prefer Bulgarian wine, foreign wine account for just 10% of total consumption," he noted.
