“I am convinced that the Eurozone is not just a change of currency, but a civilizational choice. This key decision required from the political class a clear choice - narrow party populism or statesmanship,” wrote GERB leader Boyko Borissov on Facebook.
“For GERB, the choice was clear. This choice and this goal guided us during the negotiations to form a government and throughout its work, in order to meet the requirements: fiscal discipline, reforms, and coordination between institutions. The year was a test not only for the economy, but also for democracy, and for whether decisions would be made with the future in mind rather than the next elections, which are now a fact,” Borissov added.
He stressed that the year is ending with a GDP of EUR 113 billion. Since the establishment of GERB, GDP has increased fourfold - from EUR 27 billion in 2006 to EUR 113 billion in 2025, Borissov added.
According to him, economic growth is over 3%, placing Bulgaria among the top five countries in the European Union in terms of growth rates and Bulgaria is no longer the poorest country in the EU. “After stagnation in recent years, we have managed to put Bulgaria back on the map of developed European states.
In 2025, the decision to join the Eurozone was, and remains, a test of statehood and the direction of our country. This was not merely a technical process, but a test of political maturity, institutional stability, and public trust in the country’s European future,” Borissov wrote, wishing that the new year brings peace, greater success, and a better future for Bulgaria.
