During consultations with the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms (ARF) here on Thursday, ahead of the procedure to hand out mandates for forming a new government, President Rumen Radev said that the legislature should aim to open up the Election Code, as this is their duty. He added that the necessary steps should be taken to minimize subjectivity in this electoral process.

According to the head of State, this can be achieved through the use of machines rather than paper ballots but not in the form of their use as printers, as is currently the case, but through electronic recording of the results and a control count of the receipts. Radev said: "This is a matter that must be decided by the Bulgarian legislature, and I call on parliament to take this step."

The President stated that one of the major problems of the 51st National Assembly was that it gradually stopped listening to the voice of the people.

Addressing the ARF, he said: "Your party has withstood enormous pressure not only in Parliament but also in the country. You keep your finger on the pulse of your voters, so the question I am asking political parties is whether they see any life left in this parliament in a different governing configuration, what your voters think, because that is important."

He asked for suggestions on how to ensure the fairness and transparency of the vote, since the previous parliamentary elections saw a number of problems in terms of organization and procedures, which was also noted by the Constitutional Court.
