The national team received an award from NATO for technical training in cyber attacks, the Ministry of Electronic Governance said on Friday. This happened during simulations of a coordinated national response to cyber incidents during the NATO Cyber Coalition 2025 training. The training also involved an interagency task force, which included the National Cybersecurity Emergency Responce Team (CSIRT), sectoral cybersecurity emergency response teams, the cybercrime directorate at the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, the Electricity System Operator (ESO), the State Agency for National Security (SANS), the Ministry of Defence, as well as experts from the national system integrator – Information Services AD.

During the training, critical infrastructure was protected, power was restored within the first hour of the attack, and uninterrupted power supply was ensured during the cyberattack, demonstrating the adaptability and preparedness of the Bulgarian team, the Ministry said.

During the three different simulated incidents, CSIRT, with the support of sectoral cybersecurity emergency response teams and Information Services AD, allocated resources and coordinated the response to the following incidents: a cross-border cyber incident against the power supply networks of NATO member countries and a cyber incident in a national backup system and a highly sophisticated State-sponsored threat.
