“Bulgaria Has Risen Up,” wrote Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) MP Andrey Tsekov on Facebook on Monday night, commenting on the large-scale protests in Sofia and in major regional centres across the country against the adoption of the 2026 State Budget Bill.
In his post, he also published a photo of a group of youths, about whom he wrote: “Do you see them clearly? These are just a small part of the provocateurs who infiltrated the protest during the march. In the darkness created by the conveniently switched-off street lighting along the entire boulevard next to Sofia University – where there wasn’t a single police officer in sight”.
According to Tsekov, small groups of 15–20 youths were embedded in the demonstration, aged roughly 15 to 20, dressed identically in black tracksuits, matching black windbreakers, and masks. They kept to the side and visibly did not fit into the peaceful procession. “As we approached the headquarters of the MRF, they rushed ahead and began throwing explosives. I personally tore a huge metal frame from the hands of one such group, and together with other protesters we dispersed them. Meanwhile, our ‘militia’ was diligently asleep under the wing of the favourite poodle of New Beginning,” the post continues.
“But your entire cheap theatre does not change the truth, gentlemen from the old State Security, pumpkins and pigs! Bulgaria does not belong to you! Bulgaria has risen up! Bulgaria has shown you the exit of history! Leave in peace! Resign! Immediately!” Tsekov concludes.
