The Council of Ministers decided to approve the National Investment Plan for the European Defence Industry under EU’s SAFE instrument, and to submit a request for financial assistance to the European Commission. The SAFE instrument aims to provide financial support to Member States in the form of long-term loans totaling up to EUR 150 billion.

The loans will be offered under favorable interest conditions, with up to a 10-year grace period on the principal and a repayment period of up to 45 years.

Implementation of the projects included in the national plan, eligible for financing under the SAFE mechanism, will contribute to building and developing the defence capabilities necessary to ensure national and allied security in the context of Bulgaria’s participation in NATO’s collective defence system and the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy.
