The National Construction Control Directorate (NCCD) issued an order for the demolition of an illegal development described as a “realignment of the Kozluka River bed and earth embankments” in the Elenite seaside resort, the NCCD said on Thursday.
In late October, the NCCD said that it had prepared a report ordering the removal of the illegal structure, and a notice about this was posted at the construction site. The report was issued under Article 225 of the Spatial Development Act.
On October 3, a deadly flooding in the Elenite resort severely damaged infrastructure and claimed four victims. Тhe University Center for Geospatial Research and Technologies at St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia has published a map on Facebook showing that a river runs through Elenite, with a residential complex built in the middle of its course. In the Environment and Water Ministry’s water management information system, the river is shown on the map as the Drashtela River, as it also known as Kozluka.
In the aftermath, the authorities initiated inspections along the entire Black Sea coast that are aimed to identify any construction on ravines and riverbeds. On November 18, Genov said that less than half of the water facilities inspected along the Black Sea coast are compliant with regulations and one-third of them violated legal requirements.
