The Party of Pensioners in the Republic of North Macedonia will leave the coalition with the opposition SDSM and will run in the upcoming local elections as part of the coalition led by VMRO-DPMNE, media in the country report. They quote the party's chairman, Ilija Nikolovski, as saying that the decision was taken at the request of the members, about 90% of whom have declared that they want cooperation with the country's current government.
In the upcoming local elections, the party will stand with its own lists for municipal councillors in Shtip, Delchevo and Pehchevo, and in the municipality of Karbinci they will nominate a candidate for mayor.
A week ago, another party - DOM - left the coalition with SDSM, whose leadership announced that for the local elections it will form a “Coalition for a Green Future” with representatives of the civil sector in North Macedonia.
The local elections in North Macedonia will take place in the autumn, but the election campaign in the country has already started. VMRO-DPMNE, SDSM and the ZNAM movement have already started announcing candidates for some of the country’s cities and some of Skopje’s districts. The candidates for mayor of the capital of North Macedonia have not yet been announced.
