The passport of a 53-year-old Bulgarian citizen with initials Y. H. B. was found at the scene of an accident with a cargo van, which fell into the Danube River in the Romanian county of Mehedinti, the head of the Romanian Department for Emergency Situations, Dr. Raed Arafat, told BTA on Monday. Earlier in the day, Agerpres and Digi24 reported that a Bulgarian was driving the van and was alone in the vehicle.
After an operation that lasted several hours, divers pulled the sunken vehicle from the river and found one victim, presumed to be the driver. They are currently carrying out a further inspection of the area with an underwater drone.
According to initial information, the van left the road after attempting to avoid a collision with another vehicle and fell into the river. The driver of the car involved in the accident was taken to hospital.
