Sliven Regional Governor Marincho Hristov and Turkiye's Consul General in Burgas Tolga Orkun discussed opportunities for cooperation between their countries here on Monday, the Regional Administration said in a press release on Tuesday.

Hristov stressed that Turkiye is a leading foreign economic and trading partner of Bulgaria and the best preferred destination for Bulgarian tourists thanks to a good price-quality ratio.

The Regional Governor expressed the hope that Sliven Region, too, will be able to unfold its tourism potential, based on the favourable climate, natural assets and eventful history.

The sides focused on opportunities for cooperation in education, culture and business. The Turkish diplomat emphasized that he will be working actively for the pursuit of fine economic and trade partnership. He pointed out that, to this end, he will be seeking ways for sharing experience and upgrading Bulgarian citizens' professional qualification through interaction between Bulgaria and Turkish craft chambers and organizations.

Hristov and Orkun agreed that both Bulgaria and Turkiye will benefit from an active cultural exchange in the form of events popularizing the two countries' folklore and traditions.

Tolga Orkun, who has his roots in Bulgaria, is a career diplomat with 26 years' experience as consul general in Greece, the Netherlands, Italy and Iraq. He was appointed Turkiye's Consul General in Burgas as of August 15, 2023.
