The Holy Fire is expected to reach Athens on Holy Saturday on a government flight from Jerusalem, Kathimerini reported on Thursday. Sky Express said it would then carry it to seven destinations across Greece.

Last week, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was closely monitoring developments in the Middle East, including those linked to the transport of the Holy Fire to Greece. Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lana Zohiou said various options were being discussed for bringing it into the country.

On Wednesday, Greek airline Sky Express said it would fly the Holy Fire from Athens to Alexandroupolis, Heraklion, Corfu, Chania, Mytilene, Rhodes and Santorini.
