Parts of drones were found on Romanian territory following a new series of overnight attacks against civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine near the river border with Romania in Tulcea County, Romania’s Ministry of National Defence said.

Fragments of the unmanned aerial vehicles were discovered near the Danube village of Plauru, located opposite the Ukrainian port of Izmail.

In the early hours of Tuesday, March 17, Russian forces carried out another wave of drone strikes against civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine near the river border with Romania in Tulcea County. Two F-16 Fighting Falcon jets of the Romanian Air Force on Air Policing duty took off at around 1:40 a.m. from the Fetesti Air Base, the Ministry said.

Romania’s National Military Command Centre notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations to activate measures to warn residents in northern Tulcea County. At 1:55 a.m. local time, an alert message was issued via the RO-Alert system.

After the air alert ended at around 3:00 a.m., teams began field inspections. So far, the exact impact site has not been identified.

The Romanian defence ministry said it has kept allied structures informed in real time about the situation arising from the attacks and remains in constant contact with them.
