A yellow code alert has been issued in 16 provinces in Turkiye due to snowfall and strong winds, Turkiye’s public broadcaster TRT Haber reported. The winter conditions have forced students and employees in some regions to stay at home. The severe weather has caused disruptions in the Marmara, Mediterranean and Black Sea regions, as well as in Central, Southeastern and Southern Turkiye. Forecasts indicate winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 70 km/h, while authorities warn of the risk of icy roads and fog.

Schools have been closed in several provinces. Classes have been suspended across the entire provinces of Zonguldak, Kırsehir, Mardin, Hakkari, Mus, Bitlis, Karabuk, Bartin, Bolu, Van and Duzce. In some cities in the provinces of Sirnak, Kastamonu, Bingol, Cankiri, Sinop and Yozgat, schools have been closed for one day due to adverse weather conditions, online outlet Haberler reported.

In Bolu, employees with small children, pregnant women and staff with mobility difficulties will be granted one day of administrative leave. In addition to schools, rehabilitation centres and Quran courses in Duzce are also closed on Monday. Unlike school pupils, university students in Mus will still be required to attend classes, as universities there will remain open despite the adverse weather conditions.
