On September 29, 1918, Bulgaria signed the Armistice of Salonika, effectively ending its participation in World War I. The agreement, with Allied Powers (Entente Powers) came into effect on September 30.

Following the Allied Vardar Offensive, which broke Bulgarian defences and caused heavy losses, Bulgaria agreed to evacuate occupied territories, demobilize its army, and surrender equipment. It became the first Central Power to exit the war.

The armistice lasted until the Treaty of Neuilly-sur-Seine in November 1919.
