Bulgaria’s railway workers celebrate their professional holiday on the first Sunday of August every year, the Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) reported on Sunday.
The tradition of celebrating this day dates back to the mid-20th century. The choice of date is linked to a key historical moment: in early August 1888, the Caribrod–Sofia–Belovo railway line was opened for international transport. At the same time, the state purchased the Ruse–Varna line, thus laying the foundations for BDZ.
