The Balkan region possesses significant economic potential that remains underutilized and requires targeted efforts to enhance connectivity in areas such as infrastructure, trade, investment, human capital, and digital transformation, Economy and Industry Minister Petar Dilov said at the International Conference The Balkans - for Peace, Security, Cooperation and Partnership, his Ministry said in a press release on Friday.

The forum was organized by the Strategic Institute for National Policies and Ideas (SINPI) in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Industry, and was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov, SINPI Chair Kaloyan Pargov, and representatives of regional business organizations.

"Our region has both the opportunity and the responsibility to become a bridge between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. This is not just a geographic advantage but a strategic opportunity that must be seized through investment, innovation, and regional partnerships," Dilov said.

He noted that Bulgaria, located at the heart of the region, sees great potential in deepening regional economic integration. "Integration means not only the free flow of goods, services, and capital, but also joint infrastructure projects, synchronized industrial policies, digital connectivity, and collaboration on innovation and green transition," he emphasized.

Dilov also outlined specific measures supported by his Ministry, including the development of cross-border industrial zones and logistics corridors, the establishment of regional hubs for innovation, digital technologies, and the green economy, and the harmonization of regulations and digitalization of administrative services to facilitate regional investment.

"The common economic space is not just a map with borders; it is a platform for shared goals and results. To build it, we must believe in the potential of our people, the power of cooperation, and the prospect of lasting economic, infrastructural, and cultural connectivity," Dilov said.
