Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev opened the academic year at Hristo Smirnenski High School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics here on Monday. Among the guests were MP Hristina Georgieva and municipal councillor Petar Parvanov.
Addressing the students, Georgiev said: "Thank you for giving me the opportunity to attend the opening of the academic year at one of the most prestigious schools in Bulgaria for yet another year. Hristo Smirnenski High School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics has become a standard for quality, a label for good education, and a place that nurtures the brightest minds in science, dedicated to innovation and progress."
The Minister stated that the highest diplomatic capital a country possesses is its investment in education and science. He added: "Bulgaria has proven all over the world that its education and the foundation it creates for high scientific achievements are exceptional."
Principal Emilia Grozdanova reported that her school will teach 604 students during the 2025/2026 academic year. Addressing them, she said: "Dear students, this is your time, a time to demonstrate your knowledge, skills, and character. Strive for more, believe in your abilities. School is your preparation for life, and life requires courage, perseverance, and high goals."
