The candidate for deputy governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) to head the Issue Department, Karina Karaivanova-Ganozova, was heard by the parliamentary Committee on Budget and Finance on Thursday. Karaivanova-Ganozova was introduced to MPs by BNB Governor Dimitar Radev, who pointed out that the proposal comes at a time when the central bank is entering a new stage of institutional development related to Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone.
Radev said: "From the perspective of the central bank, this process requires a combination of institutional continuity, professional expertise, and the ability to participate effectively within the Eurosystem. In this context, the Issue Department will play a significant role in implementing the Eurosystem's monetary policy decisions." He reported that Karaivanova-Ganozova has significant experience in public finance, financial regulation, and international financial institutions.
Karaivanova-Ganozova told MPs that if elected, she would continue the management and operational model of the Issue Department so that the European Central Bank's monetary policy could be implemented fully and in a timely manner in Bulgaria.
In response to a question from Vazrazhdane MP Dimo Drenchev, Karaivanova-Ganozova said that if elected to the post, she would refuse to serve as prime minister in a possible new caretaker government if nominated by the President.
Karaivanova-Ganozova has over 20 years of professional experience in senior positions in the Bulgarian state administration and in international institutions. She has been Bulgaria's representative on the Board of Directors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, chair of the Financial Supervision Commission, and deputy minister of finance.
