A retrospective exhibition marking the 70th birth anniversary of painter Ludmil Lazarov (1955-2022) opens on September 18 at the Rayko Alexiev Hall, the Union of Bulgarian Artists (UBA) said on Monday.
This is the first comprehensive exhibition of the artist’s work, the organizers said. It traces Lazarov's development as a painter: from his first paintings as a student in Prof. Ivan Kirkov's class at the Academy of Arts, which are part of museum collections, to his last works from the year of his death. The exhibition also includes explanatory notes by Prof. Angel Angelov and Dr. Emmanuel Mir on the artist's works.
Ludmil Lazarov's painting made a strong impression on art critics and art lovers from its first appearance in group exhibitions in the mid-1980s, the UBA added. Lazarov’s large-format compositions in the neoclassical style convey the academic charge of painting, but also a very strong personal sensitivity to the world, the press release said.
The exhibition will be on view until October 14.
