At the beginning of the Council of Ministers' meeting on Wednesday, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov presented five boys who came to the aid of firefighters and volunteers in the Sungurlare wildfire, including by bringing them food and water for days as the fire raged. Daniel Galabov, Alexander Dimitrov, Viktor Nikolov, Atanas Krastev, and Stanislav Bozhikov received the applause of the Government.
"In these difficult days, with their quiet and humble example in Sungurlare, they came to the rescue in their own way, but it became so visible to everyone and it gave such courage to the firefighters, to the forestry workers, to the volunteers, that I invited [the five of] them to express our appreciation and gratitude," Zhelyazkov said.
The Prime Minister noned that the boys are ambassadors, representatives of "all those who, in these difficult times, show human virtue, show that humble, unpretentious, quiet heroism and that which makes us feel united as people, as Bulgarians, to be directed towards each other with that humanity and empathy that is so lacking in our daily lives."
The firefighting efforts in Sungurlare have been on since August 8. The forecasts are for strengthening winds in the area, said the Deputy Director of the General Directorate for Fire Safety and Population Protection, Senior Commissioner Lyubomir Barov.
