The first Hisarya Jazz Open-Air Festival will take place on August 22 and 23, the Hisarya Municipality said on Monday.
The festival will be held at the Summer Theatre in Hisarya, which will become a scene of a two-day musical celebration that brings together the spirit of jazz, history and nature, the organizers said. "Together with the Municipality, we have an idea for this event to become a tradition. We have opted for a combination of well-known and beloved names with some newer and more musically and stylistically innovative projects and formations,” the Festival's Artistic Director Martin Denev told BTA.
Denev explained that the first evening will be opened by trumpeter and composer Mihail Yosifov with his quartet, and a special guest will be Piero Epifania from Peru. Also participating in the opening evening will be Kottarashky & The Rain Dogs, a formation that has been on stage for 15 years. The evening will end with the participation of Theodosii Spassov, Nacho Gospodinov and Alexander Lekov.
The second evening will open with Denev’s own project entitled Ethno Venture. It will feature guests Stoyan Royanov Ya-Ya (clarinet, saxophone), Damyan Yordanov (kaval) and Emil Pehlivanov (drums, percussion). The evening will continue with the participation of Project Carnival consisting of Vesela Morova (vocals), Kalin Zhechev (piano), Ivan Yordanov (saxophone), Martin Velev (bass), Georgi Popov (percussion) and Stefan Goranov (drums).
The festival will close with the performance of jazz singer Vassil Petrov and his jazz trio, with the special participation of Angel Zaberski and musicians Daniele Febbo (bass) and Kristian Zhelev (drums). "We expect a glamorous completion of the first edition of the festival," Denev emphasized.
