Democratic Bulgaria Co-Chair Atanas Atanassov described the Counter-Corruption Commission as "an unnecessary, harmful organ that needs to be closed". Speaking to the Bulgarian National Television on Saturday, he said that the Commission is mainly engaged in attacking the opposition.

"I have long believed that a bill should be introduced to abolish this Commission," he added, pointing out that there are other bodies that also deal with combating corruption - the economic police, the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, and the criminal police.

"We have seen that the Counter-Corruption Commission is being used to suppress the opposition and that the repressive power in the State has been usurped by those in power and is being used to crack down on the opposition," Atanassov added.
