The 2025 edition of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant’s summer internship programme, Nuclear Horizons, officially launched mid-July, the plant’s management said on Thursday. In 2025, a total of 42 university students are participating, including 21 current scholarship recipients supported by the plant.

The interns are enrolled in priority technical disciplines at 10 Bulgarian and international universities. Until August 8, they will work on real-world projects within a high-tech environment at the plant, under the mentorship of experienced Kozloduy professionals. The programme is designed not only to transfer knowledge and practical skills, but also to immerse students in the daily operations and challenges of the nuclear energy sector.

In addition to hands-on work, interns will take part in leadership training, a creativity night, and a workshop focused on presentation skills. The programme will conclude with student presentations on their assigned projects, evaluated by a special jury. The best-performing intern will receive a guaranteed return placement in the 2026 programme without going through the usual application process.

The internship initiative, now in its 20th year, is part of Kozloduy NPP’s long-term commitment to preserving and passing on nuclear expertise. Since 2024, the programme has operated under the name Nuclear Horizons, chosen through a student competition. The winning name was proposed by Radostin Stefanov, a student at Gabrovo’s Technical University.

With its paid summer internships and parallel scholarship programme, Kozloduy NPP continues to invest in the education and professional development of the next generation of engineers and energy experts, reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of Bulgaria’s energy future, the press release further said.
