site.btaEconomy Minister Dilov: Bulgarian Exports to Romania Increase by Nearly 20% in Q1 of 2025
Trade with Romania increased by 7% in the first quarter of 2025, while Bulgarian exports increased by 18.9% compared to the same period last year, it became clear during a meeting between Minister of Economy and Industry Petar Dilov and Romanian Ambassador to Bulgaria Brandusa Predescu, the press centre of the Economy Ministry said on Tuesday.
Dilov pointed out that Romania is one of Bulgaria's main and leading foreign economic partners, and in recent years there's been a steady trend toward stronger trade ties. According to data for 2024, trade between the two countries exceeded EUR 7.3 billion, he said.
The two officials discussed opportunities for deepening the partnership and implementing joint initiatives, including joint entry into third markets in sectors such as food and beverage, trade, IT, and outsourcing. The potential for joint projects in the fields of digitalization, the environment and energy was also noted.
Predescu pointed out that the two countries enjoy good bilateral relations, which have been elevated to the level of strategic partnership. “We will continue to partner in regional cooperation programmes," she added.
According to her, Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone will open up many new opportunities for businesses on both sides. “I am convinced that your accession to the eurozone will attract the interest of more Romanian investors in Bulgaria,” she said, adding that Bulgarian investors in Romania are increasing and already 3,300 companies from Bulgaria are positioned on the Romanian market.
The two also discussed the process of both countries joining the OECD, which will further increase international investors' confidence in the region, the press release said.
