Prices of staple food products continued to decline in Bulgaria this week, the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets said in its weekly bulletin released on Sunday.

The index, which monitors wholesale food price trends, decreased by 0.41 points to 2.178, down from 2.187 the previous week. The base value of 1.000 was established in 2005.

This week, almost all vegetables tracked by the commission saw price declines. New potatoes experienced the largest drop, falling 15.61% to BGN 0.93 per kg. Regular potatoes increased slightly by 0.34% to BGN 1.19 per kg. Cucumbers decreased by 13.88% to BGN 1.39 per kg, and cabbage dropped 13.21% to BGN 0.92 per kg. Green pepper prices continued to fall, reaching BGN 2.61 per kg, a decrease of 7.97%. In contrast, red peppers rose by 5.72% to BGN 3.07 per kg. Carrots became 4.51% cheaper at BGN 1.27 per kg, and dry onions declined by 1.47% to BGN 1.07 per kg. Tomatoes increased by 2.67% to BGN 2.31 per kg.

This week, only cherries and strawberries among fruits recorded price decreases. Cherries dropped 3.88% to BGN 9.36 per kg, while strawberries fell 2.1% to BGN 4.29 per kg. Apple prices increased by 6.6% to BGN 2.52 per kg, and apricots rose 4.5% to BGN 3.53 per kg. Lemons saw a marginal increase of 0.96% to BGN 3.38 per kg.

White brined cheese from cow’s milk increased by 0.98% to BGN 11.30 per kg. Kashkaval cheese (Vitosha type) decreased by 0.87% to BGN 17.92 per kg. Yogurt (3% fat and above) fell by 1.73% to BGN 1.36 per 400-gram cup, and fresh milk declined by 0.7% to BGN 2.28 per litre. Butter (125g pack) rose by 0.72% to BGN 3.08 per pack.

The price of frozen poultry rose by 1.91% to BGN 6.73 per kg. Medium-sized eggs became 1.79% cheaper, with a wholesale price of BGN 0.33 each.

Rice prices fell by 0.95% to BGN 3.35 per kg, while type 500 flour decreased by 1.03% to BGN 1.54 per kg. Sunflower oil declined by 4.47% to BGN 3.16 per litre, and sugar dropped by 4.04% to BGN 1.90 per kg. Mature beans increased by 2.56% to BGN 4.40 per kg, and lentils rose by 2.32% to BGN 4.41 per kg.
