The European Council welcomes Bulgaria's fulfilment of all requirements for Bulgaria's accession to the euro area on January 1, 2026, as stated in the conclusions of the meeting of the EU heads of state and government in Brussels adopted late Thursday.

The European Council urges the Council of the European Union to swiftly adopt the relevant proposals of the European Commission.

The Economic and Financial Affairs Council will vote on July 8 on the remaining three decisions on Bulgaria's entering the euro area.

Earlier in the day, the European Parliament (EP) is expected to vote on its report on Bulgaria's eurozone accession, which has already received the preliminary approval of the EP's committee on economic and monetary affairs and the subcommittee on taxation.
