site.btaSwimmer Mitsin Claims Silver at European U-23 Championships


Petar Mitsin won a silver medal in the men's 200 m freestyle at the European Under-23 Swimming Championships in Samorin, Slovakia, the Bulgarian Swimming Federation said on Thursday.
He finished in 1:46.48, setting a new national men's record in the event.
He lowered his own previous record by 0.02 seconds. In the final, Mitsin was beaten only by David Popovici of Romania, the reigning Olympic champion in the discipline from the Paris 2024 Summer Games. Popovici finished in 1:43.64.
Charlie Hutchison of Great Britain took third place on the podium. This is Mitsin's second medal from continental championships at this age category. Two years ago, he became European champion in the 400 m freestyle in Dublin, Republic of Ireland.
Teya Nikolova narrowly missed out on a podium finish in the women's 50 m breaststroke. Nikolova finished in 30.87 seconds to take fourth place in the final, just 0.19 seconds behind third-placed Kotryna Teterevkova of Lithuania. The European champion in the event was Eneli Jefimova of Estonia with a time of 30.03 seconds, while the silver medal went to Norway's Silje Slyngstadli.
