Bulgaria passed the technical review by the Health Committee of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris, the Health Ministry said on Thursday. This marks a key stage in the country's process of joining OECD.
The Bulgarian delegation in Paris, France, was led by Minister of Health Silvi Kirilov, who presented the national vision and the country’s progress in the health sector. He focused on the priorities of health policy in the context of global challenges, the achievements so far, and the planned strategic steps up to 2030, in line with the country’s main national documents.
The review was conducted in an exceptionally constructive and positive atmosphere. OECD member states and experts gave high praise for Bulgaria’s progress, including in coverage under the National Immunization Calendar, the increase in the number of people with health insurance, and the development and improvement of the National Health Information System.
Countries that joined the discussions indicated willingness for future cooperation with Bulgaria, aiming for the exchange of experience and best practices.
Passing the technical review marks an important step on Bulgaria’s path towards full OECD membership in the area of health care. This will create new opportunities to participate in international comparative analyses, gain access to global data resources, and plan policies collaboratively with leading health systems worldwide.
